Happy Valentine’s Day! Do something YOU love today! Taking care of your health and the health of those you care about, is the best way to show love. Sometimes that means taking time away to refuel, and that’s exactly what I’m doing this month! I’m relaxing in beautiful Arizona! In March I will be back and refreshed to better serve you!
Hormones, also known as neurotransmitters are our body’s chemical messengers. Since, “love is in the air” today, here is some info on four hormones which make us feel special.
Dopamine, the Happy Hormone, allows you to feel pleasure, motivation, satisfaction, and reward. Just anticipating something you love, whether it be food, an activity, or planning to spend time with a certain someone may raise your dopamine level.
Serotonin is associated with feelings of happiness, well-being, mood stability, and calmness. Bright light, also known as white light, exercise, supplements, and massages can bump up your levels of this hormone. SSR’s (serotonin uptakers) are often what is prescribed for depression.
Oxytocin, known as the Love Hormone, is all about bonding, love, trust, empathy. It produces that warm, fuzzy feeling when released. Hugging, childbirth, breast feeding, and orgasms are actions that release this hormone.
Endorphins are called our Feel Good Hormones. They help with pain control. Also known as a runner’s high, as they increase with more exercise.
